My publishers asked me to update the book information they have on file in preparation for marketing blasts, and promotions. One of the things they asked was to put together a single paragraph they can use to highlight the book. I guess it is the elevator pitch of the writing world.
No problem, I thought. I write novels after all, how hard can one measly paragraph be?
As it turns out, it is very hard to succinctly capture 300+ pages, of twisting plot, adventure and emotion into one paragraph. But after a few hours of revisions I came up with the following, which I think captures the essence of The Seed of Hope:
Growing up in Devon Grove, kids are used to magic talents, after all it grows on trees — literally. Charlie Parker, 13, knows this better than anyone; his father is the caretaker of the Talent Tree, the source of the towns magic. But when his talent is stolen from him, and the great Tree falls killing his father, Charlie and his five companions must embark on a quest to find the mythical Bag of Brakka. The Bag, said to foretell the future, holds the key to Charlie discovering who stole his talent, and why his father died. Friendship, loyalties, and magical abilities are put to the test when the companions discover they in the center of a plot that threatens to unravel the very fabric of the universe.
